Access Weber County Public Records

Some Weber County public records open through a free local search, while others require a paid court account, a written request, or proof of eligibility. Ogden serves as the county seat, but Utah agencies also keep key files. The useful result may be an index entry, a docket, a parcel fact, or a certified copy, and each form of access carries different weight.

Weber County Records Open to Search

Access depends on the record, its age, and its keeper. Land indexes and current parcel facts are broadly open. Court dockets are available under judicial rules, not Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act. Recent certificates have family or legal-interest limits. Police files may need review and redaction. The quickest route is to identify the custodian before asking for a copy.

Sealed, expunged, juvenile, and adoption court matters are withheld. So are protected voter details, sensitive victim or active-investigation material, recent vital certificates without qualifying interest, and motor-vehicle personal data restricted by federal law. A visible index does not always make the document image open.

Weber County Recorder Search Fields

The Weber County Recorder/Surveyor records land instruments for property inside Weber County. Staff can help locate parcels and recorded items, but they do not prepare instruments, interpret them, perform private title searches, give legal descriptions by phone, or research records over the telephone. The office accepts counter requests and mail transactions. A mailed recording must include the signed and acknowledged original plus payment.

Parcel NumberWeber County land identifierA specific parcel record
OwnerPerson or entity nameParcels tied to an owner
AddressProperty addressThe parcel at a situs address
Abstract TitlePaid loginDeeper recorded-instrument index access

Weber County does not publish an official start year for the online Abstract Title index, so older or missing items should go to the recorder counter. A lost recorded instrument may be replaced by a certified copy with the effect of the original. Provide indexed party names, document type, approximate date, recording number or book and page, and the parcel or legal description when known.

Three Weber County Property Records

The free Weber County Parcel Search accepts a parcel number, owner name, or address. It can return the parcel ID, owner, tax-mailing address, property address, land description, assessed value, and characteristics. A parcel is Weber County's stable land identifier. The situs address means the physical property location, while the mailing address is where the tax notice goes.

Those fields must stay separate. Weber County warns that tax-sale notices show an owner's mailing address, which may not be the property address and does not prove residence. The Assessor values the property as of the January 1 lien date. The Recorder maintains parcels and land instruments. The Treasurer tracks tax notices and payment status. Geo Gizmo adds map context, but its parcel lines are reference graphics rather than a boundary survey.

Address check. Keep the owner mailing address, situs address, parcel number, and legal description in separate notes because each answers a different records question.

Weber County Record Fees After HB 38

The recorder's schedule changed on May 6, 2026. Most instruments with up to ten legal descriptions cost $45 to record, with $2 for each description beyond ten. Subdivision and condominium dedication plats cost $55 per sheet plus $2 per lot. Online Abstract Title access is $150 per quarter.

Document copies are $1 per sheet. Self-made copies cost 50 cents. Computer-screen, abstract, and description prints are $1 per page. A certificate under seal costs $5, small ownership maps cost $1, plotter maps cost $2, and mylar copies cost $6. These are published office rates, but the recorder warns that pricing can change. Confirm the current Recorder/Surveyor fee schedule before ordering a large file.

Note: Certification proves that the office produced the copy it maintains; it does not establish that every statement within the filing is true.

Weber County Court Records Outside GRAMA

Weber County lies in Utah's Second Judicial District. Ogden District Court handles civil, felony, domestic, probate, and other general-jurisdiction cases. Ogden and other justice courts handle narrower local matters. Judicial records follow Utah court-access procedures, so a GRAMA request is not the route for a docket or pleading.

The public Utah Courts XChange repository supports party name, case number, court location, case type, and filed-date filters. It requires a payment arrangement. MyCase is different: it is a free, identity-verified tool for parties viewing their own cases. A public XChange result may show the case number, court, party names and roles, case type, filing date, judge, status, hearings, and docket events. Images are not guaranteed.

The official XChange screen shows the statewide route used for Weber County court records.

When the web result stops at docket data, use the courthouse public terminal or ask the clerk for a named pleading, order, or certified copy.

Roy Records Merged Into Ogden

One court-history detail can prevent a false gap. The official XChange coverage table lists Roy data beginning October 14, 1997, but says Roy's older dataset merged into Ogden District Court in March 2003. Searchers tracing a Roy case across that change may need both location labels and an exact case number.

Archived matters can also require clerk retrieval. Start with the docket, note the court and case number, then request only the needed filing or order. For a hearing recording, Utah Courts uses a separate audio request path. The Second District contact for Weber and Morgan is 2webermorgand@utcourts.gov.

Weber County Vital Records by Age

Utah's Office of Vital Records and Statistics keeps births and deaths from 1905 forward. Birth records become public after 100 years and death records after 50. Current closed certificates require identity and a qualifying relationship or legal interest. Utah Code §26B-8-125 governs that tangible-interest rule. Eligible Weber County applicants may also use the Weber-Morgan Health Department for local birth and death orders. The state's death-certificate page details that eligibility route.

The state marriage and divorce abstract set covers only 1978 through 2010, and those abstracts open after 75 years. For a marriage outside that span, ask the county clerk that issued the license. For a divorce outside it, ask the district court that entered the decree. An abstract is not the full license packet or divorce case. The Utah vital-record fee schedule applies to certificate orders, while the State Archives becomes the source after the applicable closure period.

Weber County Sheriff Records and Roster

The Weber County Sheriff inmate and offender search may show public custody identity, booking, charge, and bond information. Treat it as a current custody source, not a final court disposition. Utah's Department of Corrections search covers state custody or supervision, while the state offender registry has its own use limits.

The Weber County roster displays the local access point for custody records.

A booking entry should be checked against the court docket and the Sheriff when later status matters.

For incident, accident, audio, or video files, contact Sheriff Records. The desk is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. Release follows review, approved requesters present photo ID, and protected victim, juvenile, medical, sealed, or active-investigation details may be withheld. A standard incident or electronic police report can cost $50; estimates and prepayment may apply to work expected to exceed $50.

Weber County Records Desks

Several custodians work in the Weber Center at 2380 Washington Boulevard in Ogden, but they hold different files. Recorder, Assessor, and Clerk/Auditor counters are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except legal holidays. Call the right desk before requesting a specialized copy.

GRAMA Opens Weber County Government Records

Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, Utah Code Title 63G Chapter 2, lets any person inspect a public government record during normal hours, subject to classifications and fees. Send the request to the entity that maintains the record. Filing is free. Inspection is generally free, though an agency may charge reasonable actual fulfillment costs under §63G-2-203, including necessary compilation or redaction by the lowest-paid qualified employee.

A request needs the requester's name and mailing address, a phone number if available, and a specific record description. Add a date range, case or parcel number, incident number, names, and the preferred format when known. The Utah Open Records Portal supplies a statewide submission route, while Weber County also provides its own online entry. Records delivered through the state portal remain available there for only 60 days, so save them promptly.

Ordinary responses are due as soon as reasonably possible and no later than ten business days. An accepted expedited request is due in five business days. Extraordinary circumstances can extend the period if the agency gives statutory notice and an availability estimate. Courts and vital certificates follow their own routes instead.

Weber County Records Copy Terms

The form of a result matters as much as the name it contains. Use these distinctions when asking a Weber County office for proof, because a broad search result and an authenticated copy serve different purposes.

Index
Locator data, such as party, date, case, or recording number, that points to the underlying file.
Document image
A scan of the filed instrument. It may contain redactions or may not be available online.
Certified copy
A copy authenticated by the custodian as the record the office maintains.
Custodian
The agency or office responsible for keeping and answering requests for a record.
Exemption
A legal basis for withholding or redacting material that would otherwise be requested.

Ask for a plain copy when authentication is not needed. Request certification only when the recipient requires it. For land files, say whether an oversized plat is needed. For courts, identify the pleading or order rather than assuming the docket includes an image.

Request Weber County Open Records

A narrow, well-labeled request is easier to process and less likely to create avoidable search charges. The official Utah GRAMA guidance explains fee waivers, time limits, and appeals, while the written GRAMA request form supplies the standard fields.

  1. Name the keeper. Choose the Recorder, Assessor, Clerk/Auditor, Sheriff, or other office that created and maintains the file.
  2. Check the index. Save the parcel, recording, case, or incident number, plus the relevant names and dates.
  3. Describe the record. Ask to inspect it or receive a stated electronic or paper format. Avoid requests for everything about a person.
  4. Address cost. Ask for an estimate, state a supported fee-waiver basis if one applies, and be ready for lawful prepayment.
  5. Track the reply. Keep the request, submission proof, attachments, denial, and cited classification.
  6. Appeal if needed. File first with the entity's chief administrative officer within 30 days, then use the State Records Committee or district-court route when available.

A denial must state its legal basis and appeal rights. Fee-waiver denials and extraordinary-circumstances claims may also be appealed. If a file is partly protected, ask whether the office can release a redacted version.

Lawful use. Open access does not permit stalking, threats, harassment, impersonation, or attempts to defeat a protective or address-confidentiality measure.
